Parking can be at a premium, and it is quite a walk from the road, down the steps to the beaches, past quaint little cottages worth millions, but Clifton beach is the place to be.
Since the prevailing summer South Easter wind is blocked by Table Mountain, it can get quite hot on the beach, making the icy water temperature (12C) quite inviting.

The cold Benguela current of the Atlantic arrives here from the antarctic to the southwest to meet the warm Agulhas (or Mozambique) current of the Indian Ocean coming down from the equator.
